In a bid to eradicate all illegal acts, the detectives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), Ibadan zonal office got a dose of the ‘hazard part’ of their job, when suspected Internet fraudsters  unleashed a dangerous dog on them to resist arrest.

However, upon receipt of intelligence reports and launch of preliminary investigations into their alleged illegal activities, officers of the commission had stormed the suspects’ hideout at Agara area of Ibadan at the early hours of the day. But instead of allowing them in after proper introduction, one of the suspects instructed the guard to release the dog to attack the men.
The trick, however, failed to work. It rather tasked the detectives to display their professionalism. They were able to dislodge the dangerous dog, carry out extensive search on the apartment and effect arrest of the suspects.

Again, out of desperation to conceal useful information that could help the commission in their investigation, one of the suspects smashed his android phone with the intention to destroy the gadget and deny access to the data therein. The attempt equally failed as the operatives took possession of the broken phone. It is now with the forensic unit for proper analysis of the recovered data.
Likewise, the second-in-command to the zonal head, Bright Igeleke, who led the operation, described the experience as part of the ‘hazards of the job’.Suspects arrested in the operation are Paul Afolabi, Balogun Ibrahim Adebayo, Izu Ibobo Chukwunalu, Abe Tolulope, Onifade Gidion Idowu, Komolafe Tosin and Igwe Kinsley Otuu.
Similarly, operatives from the zone earlier in the week arrested four other suspects over their alleged involvement in cyber-related offences. The suspects – Adebisi Adewale Michael and Olowolayemo Olakunle Quddus. Opaaje Oluwatobi Isiah and Itowe Kelvin Olutayo – are now under interrogation, and are giving useful information to the operatives in the quest to unravel the extent of their illegal activities.
Information sieved from them so far revealed that they use the Internet to defraud unsuspecting victims while posing  as white ladies and foreign military officers. At the point of their arrest, a Lexus car, ipones, other brands of phones and International Passports were recovered from them.

Austin Eubanks: Columbine school shooting survivor found dead

A survivor of the Columbine High School shooting who later became a prominent advocate for fighting addiction has been found dead at his Colorado home.
Austin Eubanks, 37, was shot in the hand and knee in the 1999 Columbine attack, in which 12 of his classmates and a teacher were killed.
He became addicted to drugs after taking pain medication while recovering from his injuries.
Officials say there were no signs of foul play in his death.
Eubanks's body was discovered on Saturday at his home in Steamboats Springs, Colorado, Routt County Coroner Robert Ryg said.
A post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death was planned for Monday.
His family said he had "lost the battle with the very disease he fought so hard to help others face".
"As you can imagine, we are beyond shocked and saddened and request that our privacy is respected at this time," they added in a statement reported by local TV station KMGH.
"I was medicated on a variety of substances that were intended to sedate and to relieve pain," he said.
"I became addicted before I even knew what was happening."
Eubanks later worked at an addiction treatment centre and travelled the US telling his story and working to improve addiction recovery and prevention.
The Columbine High School shooting took place on 20 April, 1999 when two students killed 12 fellow pupils and a teacher. They then killed themselves.
It was, at the time, the deadliest school shooting in US history.

US president says war would be 'end' of Iran as tensions rise

US president says war would be 'end' of Iran as tensions rise

Image captionTensions have risen between Iran under President Hassan Rouhani and the US under President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Iran, suggesting it will be destroyed if a conflict breaks out between the two countries.
"If Iran wants to fight, that will be the official end of Iran," he said in a tweet on Sunday. "Never threaten the United States again!"
The US has deployed additional warships and planes to the Gulf in recent days.
But Mr Trump's tweet marks a shift in tone after recent attempts to downplay the possibility of military conflict.
Only a matter of days ago, the president told aides that he did not want US pressure on Iran to turn into a conflict.
And when asked by reporters last Thursday if the US was going to war, Mr Trump answered: "I hope not."
Iran has also moved to talk down concerns over the escalating tensions. On Saturday, its foreign minister insisted there was no appetite for war.
"There will not be a war since neither we want a war nor does anyone have the illusion they can confront Iran in the region," Mohammad Javad Zarif told state news agency Irna.

Why are there tensions?

The latest frictions come after Iran suspended its commitments under the 2015 international nuclear deal, and threatened to resume production of enriched uranium which is used to make reactor fuel and nuclear weapons.
The deal aimed to cut sanctions on Iran in exchange for an end to its nuclear programme, but the US unilaterally withdrew from the agreement last year.
Calling the deal "defective", Mr Trump then re-imposed sanctions.

Tehran has allegedly placed missiles on boats in the Gulf, and US investigators reportedly believe the country damaged four tankers off the coast of the United Arab Emirates, claims Iran has denied.

What's the latest in the Gulf?

In recent days, the US has deployed the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier to the region and reportedly drawn up plans to send 120,000 troops to the Middle East.
Diplomatic staff have been ordered to leave Iraq, and the US military have raised the threat level in the region because of alleged intelligence about Iran-backed forces - contradicting a British general who had said there was "no increased threat".
Dutch and German soldiers said they had suspended their military training programmes in the country.
On Sunday, the Iraqi military said a rocket had been fired into Baghdad's heavily-fortified Green Zone, which houses government buildings and foreign embassies.
It reportedly hit an abandoned building near to the US embassy. There were no casualties and it is not yet clear who was behind the attack.
Separately, Saudi Arabia accused Tehran of a drone attack on a pipeline on Friday. It alleged that Houthi rebels in Yemen conducted the strike on Iran's orders.
A state-aligned Saudi newspaper called for the US to launch attacks on the country.
Iran denies the allegations.

‘Why Our Country Nigeria Is NOT A Nation’- Fani-Kayode

‘Why Our Country Nigeria Is NOT A Nation’- Fani-Kayode

A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has claimed that Nigeria is not a nation because of the indolence of the people to confront their oppressors within the corridors of power.
He specifically said that supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari see him as someone who is greater than God.
The chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made this known in a post on Twitter, Wednesday morning.
He also slammed Nigerians for refusing to speak truth to power and failing to confront the monstrous beast that has held them in captivity.
According to Fani-Kayode:
“Nigeria is not a nation: she is an occupied territory of slaves, vassals and quislings that are not prepared to confront the monstrous beast that has held them captive and in bondage for the last 4 years.
“Most Nigerians are so cowardly that they dare not even speak truth to power.
“If Buhari asked his supporters to put their faces under his buttocks and literally eat his faeces, 99% of them would gladly do so.
“That is how badly he has damaged their psyche and destroyed their self-esteem.
“To them, Buhari is worthy of worship and is greater than god.”
